The Plot.

For centuries, the guilds had been at peace. Each had their specialization, and saw no need to fight. However, a powerful young wizard by the name of Ulys wanted more for his guild. He realized that wizards could be the most powerful of all, considering they were not limited as the others were. So he organized a troupe who all thought as he did, gathering more and more support. The seers predicted that a young man would lead the assault on the lesser guilds, though they could not say when or who. Thus, it was a surprise when the majority of the wizards turned on their former comrades, devising spells to make them submissive and controlled. It was a time of darkness, confusion and pandemonium widespread.

As all things take time, it was a while before the lesser guilds began organizing themselves once more. Led by the warrior Hanna Leysing, they began to sabotage their wizard captors. Enchanters beguiled the wizards into setting themselves free, sorcerers created potions that reversed the spells the wizards had put on them, seers helped the lesser guilds by giving as much warning as they could, and warriors silently began to eliminate wizards from the lowest ranks, going up the chain. Of course, this did not happen all at once. It was drawn out over the century, from the late 1780’s to the early 1890’s. It was a long time before the wizards realized that their power over the other guilds had vanished, and once they did, it was too late.

Key members of the wizarding community vanished, held captive by Hanna’s troops. They wanted to go one step further than freeing themselves; they wanted to make sure the wizards never had that kind of power again. So they held these wizards captive, demanding to make a contract that would benefit them. It went as follows:

We, the sorcerers, seers, enchanters, and warriors will never have to serve the wizards again. In the haven ‘Portland, Oregon’ no guild member may come to harm, or inflict harm upon others. If this were to happen, no wizard shall live to see the next decade.

At least, that was the gist of it. The wizards were forced to agree, considering how many of their own were being taken prisoner. Portland became a haven for all, and slowly peace became commonplace. But the guilds remain wary, as no one knows how long this treaty will last before another leader comes along with a mind to restore the wizards to their former glory…
